Sustainability: caring for the water that cares for us
This balneari lives off a spring and a village. If we don't look after them, we have nothing. That is why sustainability here is not a slogan: it is concrete practice, audited every year by an independent certification.
The Biosphere certification
Biosphere is an internationally recognised sustainable tourism certification: a voluntary, independent system that audits, year after year, the real commitment of destinations and companies to sustainability and continuous improvement.
Balneari Caldes d'Estrac (Aigües Termals, S.L.) renews this certification every season. It is no mere formality: each renewal means months of work reviewing consumption, processes and suppliers. It keeps us from getting comfortable.
The water, our first commitment
Our mineral-medicinal water emerges at 38.8 °C and flows constantly through the facilities, never recirculated. It is the natural way to preserve its biological, physical and chemical properties — and it is also how we understand the resource: the water is not forced, it is accompanied.
Concrete practices, day by day
We would rather report facts than declare intentions:
- Energy savings. All lighting at the balneari is low-consumption LED, and we optimise energy use installation by installation.
- Water efficiency. Flow regulators in the toilets and taps that open and close automatically: every litre counts, outside the pool too.
- Less paper. We minimise printing, digitise processes and, when materials are needed, we choose biodegradable ones.
- Low-impact mobility. We prioritise the bicycle for getting around and provide bike racks for anyone who arrives pedalling.
- Blending into the landscape. Our facilities keep their visual impact on the heart of Caldes d'Estrac to a minimum.
- Recycling. We separate cardboard, plastic and glass into their corresponding containers.
A goal that is easy to state, demanding to meet
To meet the needs of today's guests without compromising those of future generations. We work at it every season, and every season there is work left to do.
